The movie is based on the character of Uncle Drew, a basketball player portrayed by NBA star Kyrie Irving in a series of Pepsi Max commercials. The plot follows Drew and his old basketball squad, now senior citizens, as they compete in a street basketball tournament. The film stars Irving alongside a cast of veteran basketball players, including Shaquille O'Neal, Reggie Miller, Chris Webber and Nate Robinson.
Nate Robinson is a retired American professional basketball player who played for 11 seasons in the NBA. He is known for his athleticism, particularly his ability to dunk despite his 5'9" height. In addition to basketball, Robinson has also tried his hand at football and boxing.
